Editorial Staff 2012-2013

Introducing the 2012 – 2013 editorial staff for the MSRJ. We are very excited for the coming year and the chance to publish some fantastic articles.

Executive Editors

 

Chad Klochko is a fourth year medical student at Michigan State University’s College of Human Medicine. He graduated with his B.S. in Computer Science and Engineering from MSU in 2007 and his M.S. in Biomedical Engineering from the University of Michigan in 2009. He is pursuing diagnostic radiology with the hope of doing a combined fellowship in informatics and an undetermined radiology subspecialty.

David Ortiz is a fourth year medical student at Michigan State University’s College of Human Medicine. He graduated with a B.S. in Biology from Liberty University in 2009. He is pursuing academic neurology, with plans for an eventual fellowship in neuroimmunology or neurophysiology.

 

Senior Editors

 

Kevin Charles Patterson is a third year medical student at Michigan State University’s College of Human Medicine. He is in his seventh year at MSU after graduating with a B.S. in Human Biology and a B.S. in Microbiology, both in 2010. He is considering a career in internal medicine with a combined scientist training program in residency; after residency, his plans include the possibility of a fellowship and the ultimate goal of practicing academic medicine.

Liza Gill is a third year medical student at Michigan State University College of Human Medicine.  She received a Bachelor of Science degree in Physiology from Michigan State University in 2010.  She plans to take time off beginning in August 2013 to pursue clinical research at Henry Ford Hospital in Detroit, MI for one year.

Jon Zande is a third year medical student at the Michigan State University College of Human Medicine.  He received his B.A. in Music and his B.S. in Neuroscience, both from the University of Michigan in 2008.  He then went on to train as an EMT-B in NYC, and is now licensed in the states of New York and Michigan.  He retains an avid passion for both music and the brain, and looks forward to a career in medicine where new investigative research and treatment opportunities in the neurosciences can be applied to improve patient outcomes.

 

Junior Editors

 

Bobby Sahil Gambhir is a second year medical student at the College of Human Medicine of Michigan State University. He completed an Honors Specialization in Medical Sciences at the University of Western Ontario. He remains undecided in his choice of specialty but is confident academic medicine will be pursued throughout his life. He has served on a number of leadership committees and strives for academic excellence.

Jessica Wummel is a second year medical student at Michigan State University’s College of Human Medicine. She received her B.S. in Human Biology with a specialization in Bioethics, Humanities, and Society also from Michigan State University in 2011 from the Lyman Briggs College. She is considering a career in an undetermined sub-specialty of internal medicine and would eventually like to pursue academic medicine later in her career.

Kailyne A. Van Stavern is a second year medical student at Michigan State University College of Human Medicine. She completed a Bachelors of Arts degree in Psychology from the University of California – Los Angeles in 2010. She completed a post-baccelaureate program through the University of California – Berkeley in 2011. She is undecided about her future career goals, but is currently interested in Obstetrics & Gynecology or Neonatology.

Michelle A. Dwyer is a second year medical student at Michigan State University College of Human Medicine.  She graduated from Oakland University with a B.S. in Biology and a B.A. in Psychology in 2011.  She is interested in pursuing a career in Emergency Medicine

John “Jack” Mettler is a second year medical student at the Michigan State University College of Human Medicine working on a combined MD/MPH degree. In 2010 he received his B.S. in Human Biology with a specialization in Bioethics, Humanities, and Society also from Michigan State University. He is interested in pursuing diagnostic radiology, but also remains committed to public health interests.

 

Founding Faculty Adviser

 

Dr. Clare Luz Ph.D., Assistant Professor, College of Human Medicine, Michigan State University and senior evaluator, Geriatric Education Center of Michigan. Dr. Luz worked as a clinical social worker and consultant in long-term care settings prior to joining CHM as lead research director, then as faculty in Family Medicine, Geriatric Division.  Her primary research interests are on aspects of functional health and long-term care that have an impact on optimal aging for vulnerable older adults. She has overseen multiple federally and state-funded grants and teaches research methods. Dr. Luz has been the MSRJ faculty advisor since its 2007 inception.

 

Faculty Advisor, Office of Research

 

Dr. Mark Trottier Ph.D. is the Student Research Director for the Grand Rapids campus of the Michigan State University College of Human Medicine. Prior to joining CHM, he was a Research Assistant Professor in the Biochemistry & Molecular Biology Department at Michigan State University, studying the effects of stress, nutrition and obesity on the immune system. Dr. Trottier received a PhD in Molecular Virology from Purdue University, where he studied viral assembly mechanisms, and conducted postdoctoral work on virus infections of the central nervous system at both Evanston Hospital/Northwestern University in Evanston, IL and New York University in New York, NY.
